Smithland Hydroelectric Design-Build

Work has begun on construction of the cofferdam and excavation for the new Smithland Hydroelectric Power Generating Station owned by American Municipal Power of Columbus, OH. Florence & Hutcheson is part of the CJ Mahan Design-Build team for the project. The project includes: construction of 2,200 l.f. of cofferdam; 3,800 l.f of soil cement bentonite cut-off wall with an average depth of 160 ft.; installation of 65 wells for dewatering; and excavation of approximately 1.6 million cu.yds. of material. F&H is providing quality control services during construction consisting of materials testing, special inspections, surveys for construction layout and monitoring of existing structures. F&H provided geotechnical and civil design services during the design phase of the project.
