I-264 Widening (Shelbyville Road)

The project is located on the Watterson Expressway (I-264) in Jefferson County, KY. The project addressed the need for the widening of approximately 1.5 miles of the existing I-264 four-lane facility to a new eight-lane urban interstate facility within the Louisville metropolitan area. The design also included a complex directional interchange and numerous collector/distributor roads at US 60 (Shelbyville Road). The project included the structural design of approximately two miles of cantilever type retaining walls, overhead directional signing plans, and a complex, detailed and phased traffic control plan. Coordination with the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) and numerous other Louisville service providers was critical in identifying existing utility locations and proposed relocations during the development of the final design plans.
