Since 2001, Florence & Hutcheson has been selected by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department to provide ‘On Call’ Design Services for various highway projects. We have completed Signal Design and Plans, Traffic Coordination Studies and Conceptual Design for more than 125 intersections throughout the state.

Our first project was in Hot Springs, and consisted of plans for modifying two interchanges along State Highway 270 at its crossing with State Highway 88 (Higdon Ferry Road) and State Highway 7 (Central Avenue). The proposed interchange modifications provided operational efficiency of ramp and frontage road traffic movements. The existing ramp intersections with SH 7 are in close proximity to intersections with two frontage roads (Werner Rd. and Section Line Rd.) connecting SH 7 and SH 88.

Recently, work orders were issued for 30 projects. The designs varied from signal upgrades to new designs. Roadway and bridge construction plans were developed for Hwy 82 to Hwy 63 in Union Co. and right-of-way plans for Hwy. 71 Relocated Fouke-South in Miller County as part of the master agreement. Various work orders were given for the 28 intersection projects. These consisted of construction plans, conceptual interchange studies, video detention for intersections, preemption for railroad crossings, signal timing plans, coordination studies for intersections, lead/lag phasing, and A.D.A. Compliance. Responsibilities include traffic signal design, maintenance of traffic, construction sequencing, and final construction plan preparation for 86 signal locations.
