Mark Acuff, PE, PLS

Executive Vice President

"We believe our clients deserve... an experienced, professional partner that shares the client's values and brings insightful, cost-effective solutions to each project. F&H welcomes that challenge – and we thrive in that environment."

Mark S. Acuff is Executive Vice President and Office Manager of F&H/Raleigh. He has more than 25 years of increasingly complex engineering design and management experience. Mark’s current corporate responsibilities focus on business development, primarily leading company wide cross-selling and ecological restoration efforts. Operations responsibilities include final oversight of the water resources and traffic engineering divisions.

For 12 years prior to joining F&H in 2009, Mark was Vice President of Ko & Associates, P.C. in Raleigh, reporting directly to the firm’s President. Ko and F&H merged operations in January 2009. At Ko, Mark led new market expansion. Under Mark’s direction, the firm added service lines for hydraulic design, ecological restoration and signing plans. He also played a major role in advancing traffic engineering procurement. During his time at Ko, the firm was selected by NCDOT for Limited Service Agreements for hydraulic design and traffic engineering during each available cycle. Additionally, the firm was selected to provide Limited Service Agreements for the North Carolina Ecosystem Enhancement Program for ecological restoration plans during each available cycle.

The current engagement with Florence & Hutcheson is not Mark’s first. He began his career with F&H in 1983 and was Office Manager and Senior Transportation Engineer for the firm’s Raleigh office from 1986 to 1997. During that time, he represented the firm for scoping, negotiations and project management for roadway, hydraulic and structure design, traffic control, pavement marking, signal and signing plans, location surveys and geotechnical investigations. These responsibilities were the result of a natural progression from a broad engineering background. The project experience during these years included full design services for assignments ranging from basic bridge replacements projects to several major interstate projects involving multi-level, fully directional interchanges along the I-40, I-540 and I-485 corridors.

Mark is a member of several industry societies including the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Highway Engineers, Society of American Military Engineers, Design-Build Institute of America, and the Institute of Traffic Engineers. He has also served as vice chair of the transportation committee for American Consulting Engineers Council / North Carolina. Mark holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Kentucky. He is a registered professional engineer in several states in the southeast.
