Owens Named ASCESC Young Engineer of the Year
Florence & Hutcheson (F&H) is pleased to announce that Ed Owens is the recipient of the 2009 Young Engineer of the Year Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) of South Carolina. The award recognizes an engineer under the age of 35 that has demonstrated the most outstanding contribution to the profession in South Carolina. The award recognizes Owens’ commitment and demonstrated ability in the civil engineering industry as well as his extensive involvement in the community.
“Ed has displayed an outstanding work ethic and devotion to the engineering profession,” said David Beaty, PE, Executive Vice President and Group Leader for Florence & Hutcheson’s South Carolina operations. “I am confident that this is only the beginning of the recognition Ed will receive throughout a very promising career.”
At F&H, Owens currently serves as Project Manager, Project Engineer and Task Manager for hydraulic engineering design and analysis on projects throughout South Carolina. His responsibilities include the design of all roadway hydraulic components, watershed analysis, stormwater management, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) compliance, erosion and sediment control, and floodplain/floodway studies required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Owens graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering. He is a coach for his local Little League baseball, football and basketball teams, and serves as a Youth Leader for his church.
He has been an ASCE Midlands Branch – Board Member for the past five years and was recently appointed as the 2010 ASCE Midlands Branch President.
