DAM Team Selected For Rehabilitation Projects In Northeast

(Boston, MA) The AMEC Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) Federal Dams Team which includes Florence & Hutcheson (F&H) has been awarded two dam rehabilitation projects near Boston. The projects involve the rehabilitation of existing NRCS Flood Control Dams using Articulated Concrete Block Mats for overtopping and spillway protection.

F&H was added to the project team because of the firm’s experience with the design and installation of this type of protection on several dam projects. Jeff Powers, PE, F&H Water Resources division manager will lead the firm’s role on the projects.

The dams include the Hop Brook Floodway Retarding Dam in Worcester County, MA, and the George H. Nichols Multi-purpose Dam. According to Powers, field surveying is underway with design work anticipated to get underway in November.

The projects are being funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
