F&H Celebrates Re-opening of I-40 in Knoxville
(Knoxville, TN) Florence & Hutcheson was one of several key sponsors of the Fast 40 Dash which inaugurated the re-opening of I-40 in Knoxville, TN on June 11. The I-40 Fast Dash was planned and supervised by the Knoxville Track Club and consisted of several foot races and one family fun walk.
A contingency of Florence and Hutcheson management and staff were present at the Fast Dash along with more than 1500 other participants to celebrate the opening of the Interstate.
Florence & Hutcheson’s involvement with the I-40 reconstruction goes beyond participation in the opening ceremonies. F&H has been a consistent leader in the construction and planning of the project by providing assistance with the oversight and inspection of the .9 mile stretch of I-40.
“We are very proud of our staff and the work they accomplished on the major project in downtown Knoxville. They deserve special recognition by our corporate leadership and shareholders,” said Stan King, Executive Vice President and head of F&H operations in Tennessee. “Our work on I-40 is an excellent example of the impressive results the F&H team can produce.”
Florence & Hutcheson’s team was led by Wayne Mosley along with Horace Damewood, Scott Buchanan, Michael Hensley and Kenneth Moss comprised what became known as “the faithful five.”
Florence & Hutcheson was a subconsultant to Wilbur Smith & Associates, and was contracted to conduct Construction Engineering & Inspection Services. According to Harris (Scotty) Scott, Executive Vice President, Interstate 40 was closed for more than a year to undergo improvements.
“I-40 was completed on budget and ahead of schedule thanks to the careful oversight provided by Florence & Hutcheson,” said Harris.
The project included the widening of I-40 downtown to three through-lanes in each direction, the construction of Hall of Fame Drive, a reconfigured James White Parkway, a new Church Avenue bridge, a new Summit Hill Drive overpass above James White Parkway, a new interchange at Cherry Street and I-40 and relocating Fourth Avenue.
The F&H I-40 Fast Dash team included Chairman, Ben Glunt; Executive Vice Presidents Harris Scott and Mark Acuff; Geotechnical Manager, Shannon Provance; Marketing Leader, Suzi Sale; and Gary Hunt who recently joined the firm as one of our lead business development specialists.
