Job Description
Under direction, responsible for the development and design of geospatial datasets for a wide variety of projects including utility, development, transportation, surveying, permitting, environmental and property acquisition projects.
The duties and responsibilities for the position include:
• Capacity to manage GIS layers, develop new databases, complete GIS assessments and generate maps
• Capacity to evaluate and analyze work program workflows and develop GIS applications to enhance operations, improve efficiency and work product
• Capacity to plan, program, and coordinate large scale infield data collection
• Use and programming handheld GPS units and familiarity with the interoperability between hardware and software
• Strong background working with a variety of coordinate systems and performing coordinate transformations from variable datasets
• Assisting other professionals in the preparation of reports, studies, evaluations, etc. using GIS produced data, graphics, mapping, etc.
Required skills and education:
The position requires the following skills, experience and education:
• B.A., B.S., or M.S. in Geographic Information Systems, Earth Sciences, Geography, IT or related field.
• Strong GIS skills with two or more GIS packages
• Strong Macro / C / C++ / Visual Basic programming skills
• Strong Oracle or related RDBMS skills including development skills
• Excellent verbal / written communication skills
• Good analytical / problem solving skills
• A basic understanding of the concepts behind data management in a relational database
• Good IT technical skills
• Willingness to participate in a wide-range of projects, as GIS work is only one part of the position
• Ability to perform tasks requiring physical exertion, under adverse weather conditions, and on difficult terrain
• Ability to work safely and follow safety protocols
• Willingness to travel
• The ability to analyze and solve problems
