Job Description

Supports the Environmental Restoration/Environmental Monitoring project by performing a variety of engineering work in the initial planning and execution phases of a Comprehensive Environmental Response, Cleanup, and Liability Act (CERCLA) Removal Action. Manages field teams focusing on excavating and containerizing contaminated soils and debris, collecting and interpreting environmental field data, and restoring disturbed areas to beneficial use. Manages budget and scheduled tasks as assigned. Oversees subcontractors as necessary. Works closely with the project manager, other engineers and field supervisors to assist in the planning and execution of field work within schedule and budget. Work activities include developing procedures or work control packages and developing specifications to identify and control the field activities in accordance with the CERCLA documents; application of engineering principles to support safe and compliant execution of work in the field; estimate costs and submit bids for construction projects and support preparation of subcontract documents.

Required skills and education:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field; advanced degree and professional registration preferred. Must have at least 3 years experience supporting CERCLA projects.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Active DOE “L” security clearance is required or must be able to obtain said clearance following a rigorous investigation and approval process.
Physically capable of traversing uneven surfaces on foot, climb stairs and ladders in order to access facilities undergoing decommissioning and deconstruction and able to manually lift at least 50 pounds.
Medically qualified to perform work on a 29CFR1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operation Site including, being exposed to environmental contaminants, including ionizing radiation within legal exposure limits, wear respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment.
