Job Description
Provide advanced level technical work in functional areas of roadway and bridge construction, project administration and management. Under limited supervision, independently manage construction activities on large complex projects such as complex bridge, urban, or interstate reconstruction projects.
Required skills and education:
- Thorough knowledge of specifications, standards, acceptable construction practices, materials, methods and equipment used in highway construction and engineering.
- Shall be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law.
- Skill in the operation of survey equipment and computer terminals.
- Ability to understand, explain and administer contracts; interpret plans, provisions and specifications; interpret policies, procedures, regulations; and laws; prepare documents that are legally sound; train other employees and plan, coordinate, and supervise their work.
- Good communication skills both orally and in writing.
- Graduation from a university with a degree in civil engineering or from a four-year college with a degree in civil engineering technology and five years of progressive transportation technician experience; graduation from a two-year technical college with a degree in civil engineering technology and eight years of progressive transportation technician experience; or graduation from high school and twelve years of progressive transportation technician experience as an employee or consultant for a State Highway Agency; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
