The F&H Paducah Office has been supporting the Kentucky Mathcounts Competitions for 19 years with generous contributions of money and employee time. Volunteers set up the competition site, provide food and drink, trophies, scoring, competition proctoring, and coordination for advancing competitors to go to State. Volunteers also solicit funds from local consulting firms and industries to pay for prizes to students and stipends for team coaches. F&H employee, Mr. Ed Bach has been the Mathcounts Kentucky Lake Chapter Coordinator for 7 of the 19 years.
The Kentucky Lake Chapter is one of 13 Chapters in the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers. All middle schools (6th-7th-8th grade) from the 13 counties in our chapter are invited. The top two schools and two individuals advance to the State Competition. The top individual at KY Chapter level wins a $500 cash scholarship payable at high school graduation. Student winners at State get a full tuition ride at U of L or UK. The top individuals at State go to Nationals as the Kentucky team.

Florence & Hutcheson Helping Local Family
In June of 2006 The F&H Columbia Office repaired the home of a local family in need. The two children in the home suffer from asthma. One of the children also has a heart condition, which has caused her to be hospitalized on numerous occasions. In an effort to make their lives easier and cleaner F&H employees pulled up their flooring, which was badly molding, and cleaned thoroughly. The F&H employees then replaced the floor with new linoleum. In addition to this huge task employees also sealed the windows, replaced the back door, put up a new mailbox, painted the kitchen and living area, and replaced lights. F&H also bought the family a kitchen table and donated pictures for the home. The project was a huge success and F&H continues to have a relationship with the family.
Hurricane Katrina Donation
Florence & Hutcheson, Inc. and its staff raised money to donate to Hurricane Katrina victims in January 2005. Half the funds raised went to an individual and her family in Mississippi. F&H's Mr. Bobby Garland traveled to Mississippi to deliver the gift. The funds raised will help her to rebuild her destroyed home. The other half of the collection went to an organization called Samaritan's Purse. The Samaritan's Purse crews have worked throughout the Golf Coast region to restore and repair the homes and lives of the devastated Hurricane Katrina victims.

American Cancer Society - Relay For Life
More than 15 years ago, one man took it upon himself to raise money to support the efforts of the American Cancer Society. Today, it is the Society´s largest event. Relay offers something for everyone, from the newly diagnosed, to caregivers and friends, to long-term survivors.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated.
Teams come together to build community spirit, to honor loved ones and fight cancer and have fun in the process.
Florence & Hutcheson Paducah Office Employees have participated in the McCracken County Relay for Life event for the past two years raising money to support the efforts of the American Cancer Society.

After the visit, Florence & Hutcheson Columbia office employees took half a day to help "clean-up" the Heartworks facility. Fences were built, walls painted, flowers potted, areas cleaned, and the list goes on.
Salvation Army
In July 2005, Florence & Hutcheson employees spent a day repairing two rooms for the Salvation Army Housing Shelter in Columbia, South Carolina. The program, Renovating Rooms, Reviving Lives, took donations from local businesses to repair and redecorate the housing facility. The residents gained a room that was re-floored, repainted, and overall redone for their betterment. The Salvation Army strives to "do the most good by giving someone a home to rebuild their life, counseling to overcome addictions and hope to know that people care and they do have a future in this world."
